This is one of way creating “fake news”. Technology makes it easier to generate misinformation and propaganda that looks legit. One very troublesome scenario is using machine learning algorithms to produce fake videos of personalities with such precise audiovisual. Researchers from the University of Washington created a fake video of President Obama by studying previous videos of his speech.
Get Out director Jordan Peele and Buzzfeed did a similar fake video of President Obama using Adobe After Effetcs and FakeApp, which uses Google TensorFlow machine learning tools.
Due to rampant fake news we need to be vigilant in what we trust in the internet. We need to rely on trusted sources. The fake President Obama videos are entertaining but in time as the technology perfects itself this machine generated videos can be used as propagandas that threats national security.
