Bren Esports of the Philippines took the throne in VCT Challengers 3 – SEA, avenging an earlier loss to Singapore’s Paper Rex by winning in dominant fashion, 3-0, in the Grand Finals on Sunday afternoon.
Bren Esports and Paper Rex won their respective groups in the tournament’s group stage before sweeping through the first two rounds of the playoffs to meet in the upper bracket finals.
Paper Rex defeated Bren Esports 2-1 in the grand finals, relegating their opponents to the lower bracket finals. Bren Esports overcame a previous loss to defeat Indonesia’s Alter Ego 2-0 and force a rematch with Paper Rex for the championship.
While Bren Esports won the best-of-five grand finals 3-0, the final result belied how hard the eventual champions had to fight for their title. The first two games, in particular, were tightly contested nail-biters decided only in overtime.
Bren Esports won the grand prize of US$25,000 and the right to call themselves the best VALORANT team in Southeast Asia as a result of their victory. Paper Rex receives a consolation prize of $15,000 USD.
Bren Esports and Paper Rex earned the right to represent their region in the VCT Stage 3 Masters tournament in Berlin, Germany, as the top two teams in the VCT SEA Stage 3 Challengers Playoffs.
VCT Masters Berlin will take place from September 9 to September 19, and will feature 16 of the best VALORANT teams from around the world competing for a direct seed to the VALORANT Champions tournament — the final and marquee event of the 2021 VCT — at the end of the year.
